Quality control and improvement
When working on a document, I take a systematic approach, keep copies of all drafts, and record all decisions taken. I keep my skills up-to-date through:
- membership of professional organisations:
- the Council of Science Editors
- the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS)
- the Canberra Society of Editors (CSE)
- the Australasian Medical Writers Association (AMWA)
- the Council of Science Editors
- following online discussions of editing issues; for example, through the BELS discussion forum and professional networking sites such as LinkedIn
- attending meetings and workshops run by AMWA, CSE and other relevant organisations
- studying for further qualifications – I am currently working towards diplomate status with BELS; the diplomate program is designed for BELS-certified editors who have had extensive experience in scientific communication in English and who are highly proficient.

All the material I receive is treated confidentially. My computer systems are virus protected, and all files are backed up daily.
