It should take about 60 to 90 minutes to work through the 7 modules.
It is best to start at Module 1 and work through to Module 7, because each module builds on the previous one.
Yes, you can track changes while running PerfectIt. However, you need to set Word so that the changes are NOT showing on screen while you run the program. For example, under the ‘Review’ tab, set the tracking to ‘Simple markup’ or ‘No markup’. With these settings, changes will be tracked but will not appear on screen, and PerfectIt will work as it should.
PerfectIt has a built-in set of style guides. Once you’ve launched the program, go to ‘Current style’ in the Style Sheets section of the PerfectIt tab and click on the drop-down list to see the different styles available. You can choose a specific spelling: Australian, Canadian, UK or US. There are also specific style guides: American Legal, Australian Government, European Union, United Nations and WHO.
If you’d like to contribute towards creating more PerfectIt style guides, join the PerfectIt Style Sheet Project on Facebook. The group is currently working on these styles:
- Associated Press Style
- APA 6
- CMOS 16
- Macquarie Dictionary
- Merriam-Webster
At the moment, no, you can't print out a PerfectIt style sheet to check it.

I’ve purchased the training module and received acknowledgement of my payment, but have not received the second and third emails giving me access to the training course content. Please can you grant me access?
Hi, I would like to learn how to use PerfectIt properly and I don’t find the online information very clear. I’m interested in your course, but the thing I most need to know is how to import, export, combine and modify style sheets: is that covered?
Hi Claire, the advanced course will be better for you. It will be ready in a few weeks time, and will cover the importing, exporting and modifying (so far it doesn’t include combining style sheets, but I may add that).
cheers
Hilary
That’s terrific: if you can, please let me know when it’s available!
Hi, I have been fortunate enough to be among those trialling the Mac beta version of PerfectIt, but had some challenges installing the add-in from Word 365. Now that I have got this sorted out, would your existing course be appropriate for me as a Mac user? I have only very limited experience of PerfectIt from about 4 years ago.
Hi Janice
That’s a good question! The basic principles about how to use PerfectIt should be just the same, so what I’d suggest is that you try the course and if you have any problems about its relevance to the Mac version, I will give you a refund.
cheers
Hilary
