Proofreading

The final stage before publication is proofreading, which involves checking:

  • the title page and other preliminary material including tables of contents)
  • headings (for consistency and style)
  • headers and footers
  • numbering (of headers, tables, figures, boxes, pages and so on)
  • spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalisation and other style issues, and use of technical terms
  • cross references
  • abbreviations
  • references
  • tables, figures and boxes
  • permissions
  • visual consistency, and any issues with layout.
